Resource: Scientific Argumentation and CER
by Sue Wick - This is a link to my lesson on scientific argumentation and the use of the CER graphic organizer to assist students especially in ensuring their claims have reasoning to link their evidence. A couple of questions are posed, for example "Are these skew dice fair?" (from the video) using whole class interactions, followed up by "Can proteins on cell membranes help detect pain?" where I would place the students in pairs to research their claim via an article. Students will be expected to use the rubric to self assess and reflect on their progress.
