Membrane transport as a complex system
by Sara Abeita - In the lesson at this link, students explore properties of complex systems as they learn about osmosis and membrane transport. Prior to the lesson, students soak grapes and raisins in karo syrup, distilled water, and an unknown liquid. Their goal is to make an argument using evidence and reasoning to answer the question "what is the unknown liquid". To accomplish this, they learn about random molecule movement through a pear deck lesson that describes diffusion and osmosis, as well as complex systems.
